What is Hobnail

Hobnail is usually associated with the a short nail. The head of the nail is rather thick and when using enough of them you could put them in the sole of boots or shoes and you would increase the longevity or durability of the boot or shoe. Commonly used in Scotland. However there is another kind of hobnail. It’s associated with designing. Basically the designing of anything. The signature of the hobnail glass is bumps. Typically referred to as the Fenton Hobnail Glassware. Below are some examples. As you guessed it, you’re parents probably have tons of this around the house, or at least they did when you were growing up. It was widely popular in the 70s and 80s. Fun to touch, and fun to look at.
