Memories of Hobnail Growing Up
I remember when I was a child growing up and going to visit my grandmother. She had many rare and beautiful forms of hobnail located throughout her home. My favorite was the hobnail candy dish that she was always sure to keep full of our favorite candy, for whenever we came over to visit. Even at a young age, I knew that this piece of unique glassware was something special. I actually enjoyed looking at the dish as much as I enjoyed the candy that it held. It just so happened that it was in the shape of a heart, which made it extra special on holidays such as Valentines Day. Today I am fortunate enough to still own this beautiful example of fine hobnail as my grandmother handed it down to me.
Thinking back to my visits with my grandmother, I often remember the many examples of different hobnail she owned. There was the wonderful hobnail light fixture that hung in her dining room. This was truly one of the most unique pieces I have ever seen. And then there was the hobnail soap dishes that held the equally beautiful pieces of scented and sculptured soap. No matter where you would go in her house, it was like being treated to a fine art gallery of the world's most beautiful pieces of hobnail.
